Monkish Brewing Makes Its Debut In Anaheim’s Packing District

The much-anticipated debut of Monkish Anaheim has come. The Torrance-based brewery’s second-ever location opened up to the world on Saturday, December 18.

We first reported on the critically-acclaimed brewery’s early plans for expansion in April, and the Monkish team has spent the last eight months building out in the former Anaheim Brewery space in the Anaheim Packing District, a multi-block food hall where they have a brewery, tasting room, and beer garden.

The large space includes both indoor and outdoor seating, along with 15 taps of Monkish’s finest drafts. They’re debuting three new beers with the grand opening on Saturday. First up is “Anaheim,” a 15% ABV imperial stout aged in apple brandy barrels on whole vanilla beans and cinnamon sticks. There are also two IPAs – “Los Angeles Monkish of Anaheim,” a double dry-hopped double IPA and “Tropical Thursday,” a triple IPA with phantasm made in collaboration with Virginia’s The Veil Brewing.

This is their first location outside of the Torrance original, and it’s in an area that’s rapidly becoming a huge destination for beer drinkers. Both Unsung Brewing and Modern Times’ Leisuretown location are within a few minutes’ walk from here.

Monkish specializes in hazy IPAs and ranks among the best in the country. The opening also marks their first new brewing facility, as well. This should increase production of their highly sought-after beer. Monkish’s current 15-barrel set-up is small compared to other major producers in the area, and their daily releases frequently sell out within minutes.
