It’s no secret that the LA craft beer scene is exploding. With new breweries, beer bars, and bottle shops opening up all the time all around Los Angeles, it can be pretty tough to keep up. Not any longer!
Here is your guide to the newest craft beer openings in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Ventura.
2302 E Colorado Blvd | Pasadena

New to the craft beer scene in Pasadena is Wild Parrot Brewing, run by married couple – and Pasadena locals – John and Kirsten Jackson. John, a former urban planner, left his job in June to commit to the endeavor, after homebrewing for 11 years. More Info
Among the best breweries in Orange County – and that’s saying something – Green Cheek has opened a third location in Huntington Beach. Planted right on PCH and a short walk away from Sunset Beach, this location boasts 11 taps to start, plus house-made burgers, sandwiches, pretzels, and plenty of vegan options.

5930 York Blvd | Highland Park

Longtime Valley staple MacLeod Ale Brewing Co has expanded for the first time, eight years after opening their original Van Nuys location. Right in the middle of the action on busy York Blvd. in Highland Park, the new location features a dining room and patio, and takes advantage of the pizza oven left from the previous tenants for wood-fired pies. There’s something new and exciting going down on PCH in Malibu, which is not something we get to say very often. Malibu Brewing Co. is newly opened in Trancas Country Market, with a full food menu of flatbreads, charcuterie boards, burgers, and chicken sandwiches, plus 22 taps of beer brewed at their production facility over the hill in Westlake Village. The newest taproom to hit Anaheim is a doozy. Windsor Brown’s, at the Center Street Promenade, has a tap list full of giant names, like Cellarmaker (San Francisco), Bottle Logic (Anaheim), and Sante Adairius (Capitola), plus vintage kegs of Side Project (St. Louis, MO). They also have a kitchen churning out fresh-made sandwiches and sides.

The brainchild of a whole bunch of Bruery alums – among them, former Production Manager Jeremy Grinkey – Everywhere Beer Co. opened up in early August. They managed to flip the former Gunwhale production facility in just six weeks, building out a big patio and taproom with 20 draft lines. Read our preview of the new brewery here.

Taking over for the recently-closed Liberation Brewing, Beachwood Brewing & Distilling marked the Long Beach native brewery’s first expansion into Bixby Knolls. The distillery will get off the ground by early 2023, but for now, they are up and running as a satellite taproom for Beachwood’s excellent lambics, West Coast IPAs, and more. The brewery, which opened back in 2009, expects to open two more locations – a downtown Long Beach tasting room and a Huntington Beach pizzeria – by this fall. Hawthorne-based Los Angeles Ale Works opened up their long-awaited Culver City satellite location in mid-August. It marked almost four years since they first signed the lease, but the taproom was worth the wait. Pomona’s newest brewery is Neon Bear Brewery, which opened earlier this month in the former Sanctum Brewing space. The name comes from a partnership between owner/brewmaster Ryan Walton, formerly of Last Name Brewing Co., and Glendale’s Museum of Neon Art, which has a storage facility next door to the brewery. The brewery features eight taps and lots of neon signage.

Another recent opening is the latest location of Hi-Lo Liquor Market, which originated in Culver City back in 2016 and quickly expanded to downtown Long Beach. They’re known for their selection of tough-to-snag beers like Cantillon (Belgium), New York’s Other Half Brewing, Texas’ Ingenious Brewing, and Portland, Oregon’s Great Notion Brewing. Gardena-based Eureka Brewing Co. has opened a second location, a taproom located in turnkey space in Thousand Oaks’ Janns Marketplace formerly occupied by The Dudes’ Brewing Co. The new Ventura County spot has 18 taps and a very dog-friendly taproom.

The first-ever gastropub to open in Compton is Boulevard, run by longtime local Alejandro Villegas. Alongside classic pub fare, they have eight taps flowing with beer from great SoCal spots like Border X (Bell), Boomtown (Downtown LA), and LA Aleworks (Hawthorne).

Blue Palms Brewhouse was a Hollywood staple since 2008, until the pandemic forced its closure in 2020. Well, they’re back in action, taking up residence up the 405 on Balboa Blvd. Like the Hollywood spot, this new, bigger location has pub food and 20 taps that highlight some of LA’s local favorites, like Enegren (Moorpark), Frogtown, and Lawless (North Hollywood), plus lots of great out-of-towners.

Jimmy Smith, formerly the beer buyer at Glendale Tap, jumped over to Frogtown’s Spoke Bicycle Cafe to launch Spoke @ Nights earlier this summer. This new venture features draft beer exclusively curated and sourced by Smith, who drive around California to get kegs of beer from Mcilhenney (Alpine, CA), Alvarado Street (Salinas), and Humble Sea (Santa Cruz), plus local all-stars like Highland Park and Homage.

La Jara Brewing first opened its doors in late April, 2022, after three years in development. Started by father-son duo – brewer Derek Johnstone, and his dad, Randy Johnstone – and partner Jason Sullivan, Norwalk’s first brewery has personal touches throughout. The mural on the wall was painted by Derek, Randy welded the tables in the taproom, and Jason fabricated the wooden benches. Their taproom has a giant glass wall, so you have a full view of their 10-bbl. production facility while you drink your beer.

Bright Spark is an upcoming brewery started by husband and wife team Tim Harbage (formerly of Smog City and Figueroa Mountain) and Linzy Mahoney (a former recipe developer and publisher). They plan to open in Surf Brewing’s former space in Ventura this October.
803 Ventura St., Fillmore, CA 93015
Red Engine Brewing in Fillmore is a family-owned brewery run by firefighters, planning to open in winter 2022.
18210 Yorba Linda Blvd, Yorba Linda, CA 92886
Though they don’t have an opening date announced, Lone Wolf Brewing in Yorba Linda is a brewery, tasting room, and restaurant in Orange County.
230 Pine Ave, Long Beach, CA 90802
Opening up in a former Masonic Lodge in Long Beach, Altar Society has no opening date announced, but they expect to open as a brewery that also serves pizza and coffee sometime soon.
321 E Front St. Covina, CA 91723
Covina’s upcoming Campsite Brewing is in active construction, with an indoor/outdoor tasting room planned and an anticipated opening date sometime in 2022.
Bellflower, CA
Helmed by former MacLeod Ale and Pedals & Pints head brewer, David Chaney, Driven Beer Co. is planning to open a brewery and taproom in a new Bellflower food hall, operated by the group behind Long Beach’s Steelcraft.
Glendale, CA
Perpetual brewery-in-planning Reel Brewing, based in Van Nuys, has resumed plans to open its production brewery and taproom in Glendale off San Fernando Road. No timeline has been announced, so it’s currently wait-and-see.
