Beer Hopping: Four Spots to Drink Beer in Downtown Culver City

Your weekend guide to beer hopping to breweries, beer bars, and bottle shops across SoCal's best neighborhoods.

We might hate to admit it, but Culver City is honestly kind of popping; there are excellent restaurants new and old – Lonzo’s for Peruvian, Roberta’s for pizza, Hatchet Hall for fancy Southern food, and Honey’s Kettle Fried Chicken for, well, fried chicken – plus some excellent bars and really great liquor stores. What used to be a studio town is quickly becoming a destination, and as that has happened, the craft beer scene has absolutely exploded. Here are four of our favorite places in the area.

Hi-Lo Liquor Market

8582 Washington Blvd | Culver City

More Info More Info

This is the type of spot you always dreamed would open up in your neighborhood — Hi-Lo takes the neighborhood bodega concept, fully upgrades the food, beer, wine, and spirits selection, and the modernizes the shopping experience for today’s beer drinker. Their beer buyer Chase Dipple, has curated an amazing selection of beers, ranging from the rad local brewery you’ve never heard of to some of the most rare beers you can find from the most buzzworthy breweries across the country and beyond. Pro tip – stop in on a Friday night where you’ll get a chance to taste through a specially curated beer flight that rotates each week alongside a popup food vendor. Not in Culver? You’ll find the same high quality beer programs also running at their Long Beach and Costa Mesa locations for your sipping and shopping enjoyment.

Stanley's Wet Goods

9620 Venice Blvd | Culver City

More Info More Info

Besides being an excellent bottle and wine shop, and having the best name for a bar ever – come on, wet goods?! – Stanley’s on Venice Blvd. has a beautiful 36-seat bar for both draft beer and bottle pours. They have hundreds of fresh and cellared bottles and cans to choose from. And though the tap list is small, typically with around five beers on draft, they always have some exciting options, like Radiant Brewing (Anaheim), Stereo Brewing (Placentia), and Cascade (Oregon).

More Info More Info

After making its long-anticipated debut in August, Los Angeles Ale Works’ new Culver City location has quickly become a local hit. Their 25-tap list showcase LAAW’s incredible range, from the light (their Dead Cowboy rice lager is an ideal all-day sipper) to the dark (their bourbon barrel stouts are always a big hit) to hoppy beers across the spectrum (wet hopped ales, and New England, West Coast, and Rye IPAs all appear on their draft lists). Their modern taproom and outdoor patio have plenty of comfortable seating.
