Craft beer specialists Hi-Lo Liquor Market have expanded to a third location, opening up shop in Costa Mesa. Set to open on this Friday, August 5, the new spot offers beer, natural wine, and small batch liquor, along with a wide selection of non-alcoholic options and fancy snacks.
Operating out of a retail development called The Camp, Hi-Lo took over the space from a former traditional liquor store and carried out a complete redesign inside. The area is quickly becoming a tiny craft beer hub, with Green Cheek Brewing, Gunwhale Ales, and Bootleggers Brewery all a short walk away.
The new shop will be the company’s first storefront outside of LA County. It’s a significant expansion for Hi-Lo, which began in 2016 when co-owners Chris Harris and Talmadge Lowe opened the original Culver City liquor shop. Their first ancillary location opened in downtown Long Beach in 2019.
Hi-Lo on the whole is known for their expansive knowledge of all things craft – liquor, wine, beer – but where they stand out in particular is their sourcing for hard-to-find craft beer. They frequently have much-sought after bottles of Cantillon, the Belgian lambic specialists, plus four-packs of New York’s Other Half Brewing, Texas’ Ingenious Brewing, and Portland, Oregon’s Great Notion Brewing.
The shops also offer weekly free tastings from small-batch suppliers – though the schedule isn’t yet set for Costa Mesa, recent events at their other two locations included whiskey from Northern CA’s sustainability-focused Humboldt Distillery, and cocktails from DRNXMYTH, a new bottled cocktail company started by local bartenders.
Hi-Lo Costa Mesa’s grand opening party is this Friday, August 5, featuring special tastings, food, and all kinds of giveaways.
