The Los Angeles Brewery Medal Winners from the 2018 Great American Beer Festival Awards

The winners of the 2018 Great American Beer Festival‘s annual beer competition were announced this morning and we’re stoked that nine awesome Los Angeles breweries are taking home medals this year!

The GABF competition is put on by the Brewer’s Association and is one of the most competitive and highly acclaimed of all the beer competitions in the United States. As a brewery, being recognized for your beer at this level is a great honor and is no easy feat. This year saw 8,864 different beers brewed by 2,404 different breweries being judged across 102 different categories. No walk in the park! Here’s the list of LA brewery winners:

Barley Wine-Style Ale: Bear Temper by Trustworthy Brewing Co in Burbank

Belgian-Style Fruit Beer: Kumquat Saison by Smog City Brewing in Torrance

Dortmunder or German-Style Oktoberfest: Figtoberfest by Figueroa Mountain Brewing in Westlake Village

Congratulations to all the winners and participating breweries. While winning a medal at GABF is a great accomplishment, it is by no means a prerequisite for brewing great beer. So while you’re out there drinking some of these 2018 GABF award-winning beers around Los Angeles, you should also be purchasing beers from the dozens of other awesome LA breweries out there as well.
