The winners of the 2021 Great American Beer Festival‘s annual beer competition were announced this evening and we’re stoked that six awesome Los Angeles breweries are taking home medals this year!
The GABF competition is put on by the Brewer’s Association and is one of the most competitive and highly acclaimed of all the beer competitions in the United States. As a brewery, being recognized for your beer at this level is a great honor and is no easy feat. This year saw 9,680 different beers brewed by 2,192 different breweries being judged across 97 different categories. No walk in the park! Here’s the list of LA brewery winners:
American Amber Lager: Meat Sweats by Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. in Westlake Village
Belgian Fruit Beer: Coolship Chaos Balaton Cherry by Beachwood Blendery in Long Beach
Kellerbier or Zwickelbier: Fill Pils by Highland Park Brewery in Chinatown
American-Style India Pale Ale: Bullit by All Season Brewing Co in Miracle Mile
Specialty Berliner-Style Weisse: Summer Crush by Arts District Brewing Co in DTLA
Strong Red Ale: Happy Days by Claremont Craft Ales in Claremont
Congratulations to ALL the winners and participating breweries. While winning a medal at GABF is a great accomplishment, it is by no means a prerequisite for brewing great beer. It just goes to show how robust the Southern California craft brewing community is now, and how far Los Angeles has come as a compelling craft beer destination.
So while you’re out there drinking some of these 2021 Great American Beer Festival Competition award-winning beers around Los Angeles, you should also be purchasing beers from the dozens of other awesome LA breweries out there as well.
