In this week’s edition of Beer Hopping, we’re taking to the skies at the Long Beach Airport. Ah, wait. Near Long Beach Airport, where you’ll find a fourth anniversary party at a great LB brewery, the local location of one of Socal’s best beer mini-chains, and a classic Long Beach watering hole that’s been around since your grandparents were born.
Steady Brewing
2936 Clark Ave | Long Beach
More InfoThis weekend, check out the anniversary party going down at Steady Brewing, the Long Beach brewery which opened its doors in 2018. Doors open at 1pm, and there will be a DJ throughout the day, plus acoustic sets starting around 5. They’ll be running beer specials all day, and giving away lots of freebies via raffle. They’re known for their malt-forward, classic American-style IPA Grasshopper, but don’t skip their hazy homage to another Long Beach legend, Jin ‘N’ Juice – a New England IPA brewed with juniper berries.

4150 McGowen Street , CA | Long Beach
More InfoNext, just up the road in the Hangar food hall – which really did formerly serve as an airplane hangar – is the Long Beach location of Bottlecraft. By now, you probably know what you’re going to get at Bottlecraft: quick service, and a fantastic selection of local craft brews. Does it feel a bit corporate? Sure. But they absolutely know their stuff, and you’ll find super-fresh kegs of Maine Beer Company’s Lunch IPA, Bottle Logic (Anaheim) stouts, and all kinds of Humble Sea (Santa Cruz) goodies.

More InfoThe Annex
4300 E Stearns St | Long Beach
More InfoAfter those two spots, you’re going to want a beer that’s light, fresh, and a bar that’s preferably out of the sun. The Annex, a short walk away, is one of the oldest bars in Long Beach, open since 1953, but they keep their tap lines flowing with lots of great local options. So grab a 36 oz (!) Beachwood pour – one of the largest pours around – and set up shop at that shuffleboard table.
