July 22, 2020“Doing Good” is more than just a phrase, it’s a mindset that the beer community, and the world, needs now more than ever. In this article series, we’re seeking out the charitable fundraising, the positive movements, and the communal giving back that’s going on in our local Los Angeles beer community.
This week we’re cheersing to Santa Monica Brew Works with a pour of their Spread Love IPA, a special release Juicy IPA where proceeds from the sale of each 4-pack will be donated to Meals On Wheels West, helping to support efforts in response to COVID-19.
Released on June 27th, the can label artwork features a variation of the “Spread Love” wallscape mural, which was originally painted in downtown Santa Monica by local artists, Corie Mattie and Ruben Rojas promoting a message of optimism amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The original plywood panel mural used to protect an empty local business was temporarily relocated to Santa Monica Brew Works’ outdoor weekend beer garden when the taproom was allowed to re-open in late June / early July.
Coming on the heels of Unsung Heroes, Santa Monica Brew Works’ UCLA Health fundraiser beer release in April, Spread Love is a 7.2% Juicy IPA that glows a murky bright orange and explodes with strong grapefruit, orange, and tropical fruit flavors alongside a soft and smooth hazy mouthfeel.
A portion of the proceeds will support Meals On Wheels West, providing services that nourish and enrich the lives of the Westside’s homebound residents. During the coronavirus pandemic, the nonprofit has seen a 45% increase in the number of people in need of meals. Seniors, individuals living with disabilities, veterans, the chronically ill, and those who have experienced homelessness are among the most vulnerable. The organization is often their primary lifeline delivering more than just a meal – also reducing isolation, promoting self-respect, and independent living.
Santa Monica Brew Works’ “Spread Love” fundraiser will continue until the limited 10-barrel batch sells out, so head out and pick up your cans today!
