Beer Hopping: Three Spots to Drink Beer in Glendale

Your weekend guide to beer hopping to breweries, beer bars, and bottle shops across SoCal's best neighborhoods.

Ah, Glendale. It’s so much more than the Americana at Brand, or that stretch of road with, like, ten thousand car dealerships. Because there are some world-class places to drink craft beer in this part of town, including a classic auto shop-turned-beer bar, an under-the-radar spot downtown, and a super-fun new brewery putting out pulp fiction-themed brews.

We're Pouring

524 E Glenoaks Blvd | Glendale

More Info More Info

No great beer bar flies under the radar quite as much as We’re Pouring, the 30-tap bar and restaurant just off the 134 in Glendale. Their tap list can go head-to-head with any spot around, sporting tons of different options from Anaheim favorites Bottle Logic, Long Beach sour specialists Beachwood Blendery, and the always excellent Orange County natives Green Cheek Beer. If you’re hungry, they’ve got a diverse menu of sliders and pizzas that’ll satisfy most cravings.

Paperback Brewing

422 Magnolia Ave | Glendale

More Info More Info

Paperback Brewing, which opened its taproom last year in the midst of the pandemic, has quickly grown into a true day drinking destination. Literally in the shadow of the Atwater Village Costco in Glendale, this new spot has a great front patio, a big open air brew house, and a pulp novel-themed taproom. Their already-classic hazy IPA Bunny With A Chainsaw is a great crowd pleaser, and the newly introduced Doctor Octobock is a festbier that will definitely put you in the mood for fall, even if the weather isn’t quite there yet.

The Glendale Tap

4227 San Fernando Rd | Glendale

More Info More Info

Approximately a 15-second walk away from Paperback is The Glendale Tap. This classic beer bar on San Fernando was formerly an auto body shop. Now, they have more than 50 taps, and, though things have slowed down a bit lately, they still bring in some great beers from both near and far. You can consistently find kegs of SLO’s Liquid Gravity, Denver sour makers Crooked Stave, and hard-to-find east coast purveyors like Grimm Artisanal Ales.
