Tight-knit Frogtown, tucked between the 5 and the LA River Bike Path has an outsized number of great places to eat and drink for its tiny footprint. Though it comprises just a two block wide, mile-long stretch of residential neighborhood, you’ll find some of LA’s best tacos (Salazar), coffee (Spoke Bicycle Cafe, Morning Service), sandwiches (Wax Paper), and, of course, beer – all within a short hop of the revitalized river. So grab some beers, and take a walk down the path with us in Frogtown.
Frogtown Brewery
2931 Gilroy St | Frogtown
More InfoFrogtown Brewery has established a reputation for consistent, innovative, and highly drinkable beers. That manifests itself in a lot of different ways – from the clean, clear, crisp American lager Survey Says, to Fuzzy Logic, a fruited sour that drinks almost like a mai tai, to the toasty, roasty and shockingly boozy Bock, Paper, Scissors. This weekend, they’re also celebrating their sixth anniversary with the annual release of Prince George, an excellent imperial porter aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels.

3050 N Coolidge Ave | Frogtown
More InfoThere are only three weekends left to hit Spoke at Night, the excellent venture at Spoke Bicycle Cafe from local beer wizard Jimmy Smith. But just because they’re wrapping up for the end of the season, doesn’t mean they’re slowing down. In fact, they’ve been keeping some of their best stuff for the end, like Rachelle, an oak barrel-aged blended saison with rhubarb from Seattle’s Fair Isle Brewing. They’ll also have a new Fremont Brewing (Washington) fresh-Centennial hopped pale ale, a tremendous hazy double IPA from The Veil Brewing (Virginia), and two beers each from California favorites Riip Beer Co. (Huntington Beach) and Urban Roots (Sacramento).

More InfoSalazar
2490 Fletcher Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90039 | Frogtown
More InfoSalazar, a short walk up the bike path from Spoke toward Atwater Village, is worth a visit for its fantastic, upscale modern Mexican food – particularly the chile relleno en nogado, a beautiful stuffed chile topped with walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds. As far as beer goes, you’ll find great local brews like neighbors Frogtown, and SoCal locals Boomtown (Arts District), Lincoln Beer Co. (Burbank), and Pizza Port (Solana Beach) all on draft. But the beer offering you should really be after is their michelada verde. Perhaps the best miche in a city full of great ones, their mix is loaded with roasted blended green chili and tomatillo, fresh cucumber, and a Modelo – but don’t be afraid to swap the Modelo for Frogtown’s Kinky Blonde ale.
