Beer Hopping: Three Spots to Drink Beer in Old Town Pasadena

Your weekend guide to beer hopping to breweries, beer bars, and bottle shops across SoCal's best neighborhoods.

Old Town Pasadena is the perfect place to beer hop, packing an astonishing number of craft beer bars into a tight, walkable few blocks. Part of this is undoubtedly due to the influence of Stone – which opened an outpost here back in 2012, long before their sale to Sapporo – but some spots (like Lucky Baldwin’s, open since 1996) have been around even longer. These are three – of the many – great spots, all within walking distance in this cobblestoned section of the San Gabriel Valley.

Lucky Baldwin's

17 S Raymond Ave | Pasadena

More Info More Info

The oldest of the bunch, Lucky Baldwin’s is a British pub that’s been around since the days of yore – 1996, in this case. But you’ll find more than your typical browns or bitter ales, here. Lucky’s sources beer from all over the world – including one of the best lists of Belgian beers around – but their local list will rival any in the neighborhood. You’ll find options like Chapman (Pasadena), Eagle Rock Brewing, and Alesmith (San Diego), plus about 10-12 rotating options of those dubbels, tripels, and quads from Belgium.

The Blind Donkey

53 E Union St | Pasadena

A whiskey library. Carne asada fries. Arcade games. These are just a few reasons to visit Blind Donkey, Pasadena’s whiskey bar and game room with a shockingly good tap list. They stock that draft board full of excellent beers from across the states – it’s one of the few places around where you’ll find Half Acre beer, and they’re always well-stocked with lesser-known Russian River beers. Always a plus.

Cervecería Del Pueblo

141 W Bellevue Dr #100 | Pasadena

More Info More Info

You should wrap up this Old Town Pas trip at Cervecería Del Pueblo, which is a 15-minute walk from the heart of the neighborhood. This brewery, which was unlucky enough to open in the spring of 2020, has persevered and puts on some super-original events for a brewery: funky soul DJs, live band karaoke, and stand-up shows. The beer list is a veritable trip around the world – including a coffee kolsch with Colombian beans, a berliner weisse with Brazilian curuba fruit, and a pale ale brewed with Argentinian yerba mate.

  1. Gotta check out the best bottle shop in Old Town Pasadena. It’s the Shell gas station on Arroyo! Not a joke. Bottle Logic, Humble Sea, There Does Not Exist, Alvarado, Great Notion…they’ve got the goods!
