It’s January, which means Triple IPA season is upon us once again. While most people clamor for other more hyped beers, here in LA we know we have an even better option that is locally brewed and even more accessible (yes I’m bitter for missing out on this year’s online Younger release).
El Segundo Brewing Company is back with Power Plant Triple IPA, released as part of their “Meltdown” event, in cans for the first time! This year’s batch sits at 11.1% ABV and is hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, and Amarillo.
This West Coast triple is incredibly aromatic, with fresh lemon, orange peel, and pine bursting out of the glass. On the taste, Power Plant is bone dry with bright citrus and pine, solid bitterness, and a nice clean finish. You would have trouble convincing anyone of its high ABV, it drinks much closer to an 8% beer and is dangerously drinkable.
Once again, El Segundo continues to impress with their ability to execute a style of beer that is really not easy to brew. Even better, this beer is underhyped and is very accessible to obtain in late January / early February, whether you order through El Segundo’s website or visit your local craft beer retailer and pick up some cans for yourself!
